Updated Housing Tax Credit Estimates; Multifamily Application Deadlines
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has updated state population estimates that will affect 2027 9% Housing Tax Credit (HTC) distribution estimates for Minnesota. The Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program allocates federal housing tax credits to owners of qualified affordable rental housing projects. Learn more about the program HERE.
2027 estimates are based on population and per capita credit volume and subject to change. The updated distribution for Minnesota can be found HERE.
The deadline to submit a 2026 Multifamily Consolidated RFP/2027 HTC round 1 application is next Thursday, July 9th, 2026 at 12 noon. Additionally, the Metropolitan Council’s approved $3.5 million in funding through the Livable Communities (LCA) Grant Program will be available in the multifamily pool of financing through the Consolidated RFP. Cities must apply through the consolidated RFP to be eligible for these funds and projects must be located in cities participating in the LCA program. Fiscal Year 2026 Rent and Income Limits Published
The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has published its fiscal year 2026 rent and income limits for a variety of programs, including the Section 8 program, Multifamily Tax Subsidy Projects for Housing Tax Credits, and Tax-Exempt Bond Financed Properties. Minnesota Housing uses the HUD published limits to compute income and rent limits for multifamily loan programs.

2026 Metro Cities Policy Committees Start in July!
Metro Cities 2026 policy committee process will begin in July. Your participation is encouraged! Committees will recommend the association’s legislative policies for 2027. Participation is open to member city elected officials and staff. Committee descriptions and dates are on the website. Please be sure to sign up for the committee(s) you wish to attend. This will help us keep rosters accurate. We look forward to seeing you this summer!
