Policy Adoption Meeting – Mark Your Calendar!
Metro Cities’ policy adoption meeting this year will be on Thursday, November 20th at 4:00 pm. This is a virtual meeting at which members give final adoption to the association’s legislative policies for the coming year. We will welcome the Minnesota Historical Society as our guest speaker. This is generally an hour-long meeting, and a quorum is required. More information to come soon. Please plan to attend! RSVP to Jennifer at [email protected].
Metro Cities Housing Forum A Success!
Metro Cities hosted a half-day, in-person housing forum on Thursday with 14 speakers who presented on a variety of housing related topics. These included preserving housing, local work on zoning code updates, innovative developments, homeowner associations and housing improvement associations, tax increment financing, and ideas for local affordable housing aid dollars.
Metro Cities thanks the many city officials who joined us yesterday, and our speakers for sharing a wealth of resources and information in digestible and engaging formats. Our goal was for cities to share information about the range of local housing work occurring in cities across the metropolitan area. An e-binder with PowerPoints and other resources and information will be posted soon.
Distressed Building Program at Minnesota Housing
Minnesota Housing is accepting applications for the Community Stabilization: Distressed Multifamily Rental Building Program RFP. This program was established for providing loans or grants in order to stabilize and recapitalize existing affordable rental housing with rent and income restrictions, funded with $50 million in one-time funding. There are a variety of requirements for eligible properties and eligible uses for the funding. You can find more details on the program and the application HERE.
Applications are due by Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at noon.
Minnesota Housing has now released an FAQ document for this program. Additionally, they will be hosting a second information session on this program on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. You can register for the session HERE.
Provide Contact Information for LAHA Reporting
Minnesota Housing Finance Agency plans to release reporting forms and instructions for reporting on Local Affordable Housing Aid (LAHA) in early October. LAHA is funding collected through a metropolitan area sales tax and distributed to cities in the metropolitan area over 10,000 in population for the purposes of funding housing locally. Until those forms are released, you can provide your primary contact information for the person in your organization who should be Minnesota Housing’s primary contact for the Local Affordable Housing Aid reporting. You may also provide up to two secondary contacts. Each person will receive access and instructions for uploading LAHA reports to Minnesota Housing.
You can find more information about Local Affordable Housing HERE.
