Statement: Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and Senator John Hoffman

Metro Cities is deeply saddened on the murders of House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her spouse Mark Hortman, and the attempted murders of Senator John Hoffman and his spouse, Yvette Hoffman. We extend our deepest sympathies to the Hortman family and wish John and Yvette Hoffman complete healing and recovery from their injuries.

Metro Cities has worked closely over the years with both Speaker Emerita Hortman and Senator Hoffman and expresses its gratitude for their strong leadership, public service and commitment to our state and its communities.

Metro Cities expresses its gratitude and appreciation to the many law enforcement officers who responded to these horrific events last weekend.

 

Metropolitan Council Committee Recommends Funding for TBRA Grants

On Monday, the Metropolitan Council’s Community Development Committee (CDC) approved funding for seven grant applications for the Tax Base Revitalization Account Grant Programs. These programs support redevelopment on properties with environmental contamination. Seven total applications were submitted for the first round of funding and the committee recommended $2.432 million in funding for the following:

  • Five cleanup grants totaling $2.367M to the cities of St Paul, Minneapolis, Richfield, and South St Paul EDA
  • One investigation grant to the city of Inver Grove Heights EDA
  • One SEED grant to the city of Richfield

Metro Cities Breakfast at LMC Annual Conference

Metro Cities will host a breakfast at the League of Minnesota Cities 2025 Annual Conference in Duluth on Thursday, June 26th. Breakfast will be held at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center in the Split Rock room, from 7:45-8:45 am. This is a great opportunity to connect with other metro city officials. 2025 Metro Cities Policy Committees

Metro Cities 2025 policy committee process begins in July. Participation is open to member city elected officials and staff. Committee descriptions and dates are on the website. Please be sure to sign up for the committee(s) you wish to attend. This will help us keep rosters accurate. We look forward to seeing you this summer!
