TAB Approves Release of Regional Solicitation Application

The Transportation Advisory Board (TAB) accepted public comments to the 2020 Regional Solicitation and approved its release this week. The Regional Solicitation is the method by which federal transportation dollars from the Surface Transportation Block Grant Program and Congestion Mitigation Air Quality program are allocated within the metro area. The funding is distributed among roadway, transit and travel demand management, and bicycle and pedestrian projects.

As part of its recommendation to release the solicitation, the TAB approved changes that include increasing the maximum award for a multi-use trails and bicycle facilities from $4 million to $5.5 million, adopted a $10 target for bridge projects, and include the need for transit applicants to certify that they will provide operating funding for projects beyond three years. The TAB will develop a new scoring method for Arterial Bus Rapid Transit (ABRT) and other Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) projects for the 2022 solicitation.

The Regional Solicitation will now be forwarded to the Metropolitan Council for final approval.
